Romi left her native South Africa as a young woman after studying there. Her first shop in Paris was in the Marais and then at Saint Germain des Prés where she worked for a private international clientele.
She essentially designs clothes that are bespoke, made out of the finest jacquard, embroidered fabrics and silks from Como that combine generations of traditional artisanal skills and modern techniques. Spanish brocades, Indian saris, French lace and velvets are chosen from the most prestigious makers.
In her atelier fabrics are also sculpted, embellished and decorated with applications, relief work, and texturing.
Over time her Couture spilt over into Interior Couture and new creations were born… sculpted unique curtains, panels with relief work, decorative objects and Couture for the House was born.
Profoundly in love with Venice as a vertiginous cultural crucible, with its traditional artisans and atmosphere, Romi feels privileged to live and work in this city, finding never-ending aesthetic resonances between various epochs and cultures as well as echoes of her beloved South Africa.
